“I’m bored!” Do you hate to hear those dreaded words when you just want your kids to be enjoying their downtime in the Summer? You want to say, “Enjoy it! When you’re a grown-up boredom looks so different!” But instead, you say, “Only boring people are bored” or “So, go clean your room.” Neither of these really solve the problem, so here are a couple my favorite Summertime boredom-busting ideas!
Create a Jeopardy board that you would absolutely smash. Now – learn something that’s absolutely NOT on that board. Can you recite every word to every musical known to man, but never read Silent Spring by Rachel Carson? Give it a try! Make a list of 3 things you would like to be able to add to your board by the end of summer. Then, when you can’t think of anything to do, there are 3 obvious things on your list!
The second thing you can do is create a Summer bucket list for your family! You can make one for the group, and encourage your kids to make individual ones too. I even have a version in my Hannah’s Enchantments workbooks for each season! This is perfect for those days when everyone is lying around, looking at their phones saying, “What should we do today? I dunno…” Make a super exhaustive list, like 100 things, and you’ll never hear “I’m bored” again!
What’s on your Summer bucket list for your family? What new things would you like to try this Summer? Share your ideas with us!
