Make a “Just One Year” Scrapbook

Are you the kind of family that has a scrapbook of every single month of your kid’s life? Or are you more like my Mom, and there’s an adorable baby book… and then a lot of photos stored in bins? We were not a scrapbook family, but I’ve always been a collector so I had boxes of movie tickets and playbills – and one year, I did something that made all the difference.

I’m going to suggest something crazy here – a Just One Year Scrapbook. That’s right. A no strings attached, just for one year scrapbook. It doesn’t have to be pretty, and you can update it once a month while watching a tv show. Here’s why (and when) you might consider a Just One Year scrapbook:

  • If you know you’ve got a tough year ahead, try using it as a gratitude practice. Because no year is ever perfect, but it’s easier for the wonderful things to stand out if you’ve documented them.

  • If you know it’s going to be an epic year, then you probably want to remember every detail! If you just want to give it a try to see if it’s something you like to do – because if not, no pressure to keep making them! But what if you realize you do enjoy it?

  • It doesn’t have to start on January 1st – it can be a season of life or a school year or a sports year!

  • What goes in it? Anything and everything – movie tickets, napkins from a favorite restaurant, coasters, a straw wrapper sculpture, doodles, and each month you can send your phone photos to Walgreens or CVS and have the prints shipped to you! You can write next to the things you paste in, but also, you don’t have to!

I think so many people get stressed out that they won’t be able to scrapbook perfectly, that they don’t do it at all. But I know you can do this, if you want to! Looking back at my Just One Year scrapbook from 2014 makes me so happy… maybe I’ll make one again this year! Would you consider a Just One Year scrapbook? Why or why not? Share with us!
