Summer is a great time to plan a family service project, as it helps kids expand their worldview. Doing it as a family makes for great memories and feeling good together!
Brainstorm. The first step is to decide what you want to do. Ask each member of the family to think of a cause that is important to them. They don’t have to go so far as to bring ideas for projects, simply what do they care about?
Now, choose the project. Once you’ve discussed all the causes you might like to support, decide on one. Now you can have everyone think of a project the whole family could do. Maybe it’s one big idea, or perhaps there are lots of little things you can do throughout the summer.
Figure out what you need. Odds are, someone in your family enjoys being the planner. Let them assign everyone their jobs to get prepared for the project. If you need community help, start reaching out. If there’s an organization involved, reach out now.
Do that project! Get excited about it. Talk to your family about the logistics. Get pumped. Celebrate it! Not only have you helped your community, you’ve also inevitably become closer as a family!
What kinds of service projects has your family done together, or what would you like to do? Let us know your ideas!
